2004 UK TOYFAIR

The 2004 UK Toyfair is usually does not have a super huge turn out of NEW stuff from toy companies and producers simply becuase the U.S. International Toy Fair in New York City is usually within a few weeks of the event and the U.S. Toy Fair is typically THE premier event for showcasing new and coming products to potential buyers and retailers. This year, however, we know that NECA will be presenting their brand new line of LOTR 18" figures. Also, you never know what the toy companies will show...perhaps Play Along will surprise as well. At any rate, be sure to stay tuned here for links to all the latest coverage...and perhaps a bit of our own! Without further ado...launch!
     
Toybiz: About all we can say from the reports we have heard is that the Deluxe Rotocast Fell Beast is way underscaled. Looks as though the Nazgul riding the Fell Beast is larger than the Fell Beast itself (mins wings and tail of course). Other than that small disappointment (and remember it is only a prototype...) there was lots to get excited about...the packaing looks amazing for the Fell Beast, there are a plethora of new multi-packs coming (some with exlcusives). Here are some final notes on the Toybiz Stuff that we learned:
Multi-Packs:
Ringbearers: Green Packaging - Transparent Frodo, Bilbo, and Gollum
Heroes of Middle-earth: Red Packaging - Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli
Sauron: Blue Packaging - TW Ringwraith and 2 cloth Ringwraiths
Gates of Mordor: Legolas, Gimli, Aragorn, GTW, and Mouth of Sauron on Steed
Rotocast:
Wave 3: Frodo, Gandalf the White, and Samwise
Wave 4: Eomer and Attack Troll
30 Jan: Looks like the next wave of figures from the Return of the King assortment were shown at the UK Toy Fair, but the Toybiz folks (Vivid Imaginations) did not allow any photographs. Dean, reporting for LOTRG.com, reported that there was a mock-up of the Rotocast Fell Beast as mock-up packaging. Don't expect to see any images from Toybiz until the U.S. Toy Fair in NYC. If any show up, we will be the first to report them (and we were...but got in a bit of trouble over that accolade...hah!)! Nevertheless, here is what is coming for the remainder of the year!
Here is the list seen at UK Toyfair 2004:
FOTR Wave 3: Gil-Galad, Armoured Lurtz, Elrond in Robes, Elendil, Moria Archer and Bilbo.
FOTR Wave 4: Aragorn, Boromir, Transforming Bilibo and Isildur.
TTT Wave 3: Armoured Boromir, SP Frodo, Isengard Orc, Uruk Hai Warrior, Gollum with Fish and Gamling.
TTT Wave 4:Theodred, Legolas and Balrog Damaged Gandalf
ROTK Wave 3: Shelob, Queen Arwen, Ringwraith, Gimli, Gollum with Ring and Uruk Hai warrior
ROTK Wave 4: Mt. Doom Frodo, Denethor, Prologue Smeagol, Gorbag and Gondorian Guard.
NOTE: Most notable change is the BALROG DAMAGED GANDALF ...could this mean we will be seeing the mighty BALROG? Will have to wait and see at this years NYC Toy Fair (15-18 Feb)!

Play Along Toys: There was a wide range of PLay Along stuff at the UK Toy Fair. Tons of packaged items shown as Mock-ups. Most notably was the Pelennor Fields massive Deluxe set that is set to include the Gondorian Catapult, a MASSIVE Orc Siege Tower, and a Troll used to pull it! Also notably absent were the Armies of the Dead warriors seen previously at another show. Perhaps they will make it to the NY Toy Fair in a couple weeks (15-18 Feb 2004)! They also showed the Fell Beast set and had mock-ups of the Shelop and Cirith Ungol sets. This is going to be a HUGE year for AOME and Play Along...so be ready to curse your wallets!

NECA: The items shown at this years UK Toyfair were undoubtedly impressive. The folks reporting for both LOTRG.com and for Action-Figure.com took some excellent pictures of these 18" figures. The first figure, Aragorn is due out in Apr 04 while the second, Legolas, is due in July 04. The third in the series, probably Gandalf the Grey, whas a fall 04 release so far. No word as of yet if they are planning on a DELUXE BALROG!

Art Asylum Minimates: A few images were taken at the show from both LOTRG.com and Action-Figure.com. The most notable is the new and upcoming TWILIGHT FRODO Minimate. This should be a cool figure...let's just hope they don't make it a CHASE figure...BAAAH!

Sideshow/WETA: The only things they showed at this years UK Toy Fair were some images of some older busts and what appears to be a new bust or two. Check out the report and images over at Action-Figure.com!
